Creating Preparations
This guide explains how to create a preparation in PepTrac—from selecting your container type to saving it for protocol use.
Preparations enable PepTrac to calculate precise dosing and display the exact injection volume (in mL, Units, or IU) for each shot in your Dashboard and Shots View. This ensures accurate, consistent tracking and removes guesswork at injection time.
Start a New Preparation
You can create a preparation in two ways:
- From the Preparations tab by tapping the plus (+) button in the top-right corner.
- During protocol setup by selecting Add New Preparation in the peptide picker.
Both methods open the same preparation creation form. Any preparation you save becomes available as an option under Add Existing Preparation when assigning peptides in protocols.
Preparation Setup Steps
Follow these steps to create a new preparation:
- Enter Preparation Name – Give your preparation a clear, descriptive name that helps identify the vial or pen.
- Select Container Type – Choose Vial or Pen to define how your preparation is represented in the app and displayed in your Dashboard and Shots View.
- Select Dosing Units – Choose how PepTrac should display your injection amounts (mL, Units, or IU).
- Add Peptides – Tap Add Peptide to open the selection menu. Choose your peptide, enter vial information, and use + Add Vial if adding multiple vials of the same peptide. You can repeat this process to add multiple different peptides to the same preparation, creating a blend.
- Add BAC Water Amount – Enter the total bacteriostatic water used for reconstitution (in mL). PepTrac uses this along with your peptide amounts to calculate dosing volumes.
- Save Your Preparation – Review all entered details, then tap Save. Your preparation will appear in the Preparations list and be available for protocol use.
Preparation Name
Enter a descriptive name that clearly identifies the physical vial or pen.
Common patterns include:
- Peptide + Container: Semaglutide Vial 1, BPC-157 Pen
- Blend Description: Recovery Stack, Immunity AM
- Date + Peptide: March 2025 Tirzepatide, CJC/Ipa 03-15
Choose a name that will be easy to recognize when selecting preparations during protocol setup and when logging shots.
Container Type Selection
At the top of the form, choose your Container Type — Vial or Pen. This selection determines how the preparation is visually identified in the app and how injection volumes are displayed.
Vial
Select Vial for standard injectable containers that typically require reconstitution with BAC water.
- Supports single-peptide or blended preparations.
- Displays a vial icon next to your preparation and shot data.
Pen
Select Pen for cartridge-style injectors you've prepared for repeated use. Pens function the same as vials in PepTrac, using identical reconstitution and concentration logic.
- Supports single-peptide or blended preparations.
- Displays a pen icon beside your entries.
Important: Container type cannot be changed after saving. If you need to switch between vial and pen, create a new preparation.
Dosing Units
Choose the Delivery Unit you'll use when viewing and logging doses. This determines how PepTrac displays your injection amounts throughout the app, including in your Dashboard and Shots View. The delivery unit choice affects display only—it does not change how doses are calculated. The default for new Vial preparations is mL.
Available Units:
- mL – Volume-based dosing, common when drawing from a vial with a syringe.
- Units (U) – Standard for insulin-style syringes or cartridge-style pens (1 U = 0.01 mL).
- IU – A selectable display option for users who prefer to view doses in International Units. It functions the same as Units in PepTrac.
Adding Peptides to Your Preparation
In the Peptides section, tap Add Peptide to open the selection menu and choose the peptide you want to include. Once added, you'll define how much of that peptide is in the preparation by entering one or more vials for it.
You can add a single peptide or multiple peptides (to create a blend). For each peptide, PepTrac uses the vials you enter—together with your BAC water amount—to calculate total peptide content, concentration, and dosing automatically.
Single Peptide Preparations
For a single-peptide preparation:
- Tap Add Peptide and select your peptide.
- Use + Add Vial to add each vial of that peptide. For every vial, enter the amount per vial (for example, 5 mg, 10 mg).
- Once all vials are entered, continue with BAC water and save.
Example: If you add two vials of BPC-157, one labeled 5 mg and another 10 mg, PepTrac combines them for a total of 15 mg and calculates your concentration and injection volume accordingly.
You can update vial counts or amounts in an existing preparation at any time. This allows you to reuse the same peptide with different total concentrations depending on what you have available.
Blended Preparations
For a blended preparation with multiple peptides:
- Tap Add Peptide and select the first peptide. Add its vials using + Add Vial.
- Repeat Add Peptide for each additional peptide in the blend, entering one or more vials and their mg per vial amounts.
- Tap Save after all peptides and vials are entered.
PepTrac totals each peptide's content and calculates accurate concentrations and dosing for the full blend. All peptides in a blend are completed together when you log a shot, since the blend is administered as one injection.
You can edit vial amounts or peptide totals at any time to adjust future dosing without losing your shot history.
Reconstitution Details
Enter the amount of bacteriostatic water (BAC water) you used to reconstitute your preparation. This value, measured in mL, determines the concentration of your solution and the injection volume PepTrac displays for each dose.
If you later edit your preparation to change the BAC water amount, PepTrac automatically updates all dose calculations so your displayed injection volumes remain accurate.
Review and Save
Before saving, confirm:
- The preparation name is clear and unique.
- The container type (Vial or Pen) is correct.
- The dosing unit matches how you intend to measure doses.
- All peptides are listed with accurate concentrations.
- Reconstitution amount (if used) matches your actual mixing plan.
Tap Save to create the preparation.
- It will appear in your Preparations list.
- It becomes available under Add Existing Preparation when configuring protocols.
Using Your Preparation in a Protocol
To use a saved preparation when creating or editing a protocol:
- Open the protocol form.
- In the Peptides section, tap the plus button (+).
- Select Add Existing Preparation.
- Choose your preparation from the list.
- Configure the dosing schedule for that preparation.
All peptides in the preparation follow the schedule you configure. When you log a shot from that protocol, all included peptides are marked complete for that dose, and PepTrac shows the exact injection volume based on your preparation settings.
What Happens Next
After creating a preparation, you can:
- Assign it to a protocol.
- View calculated concentrations and dose volumes.
- Edit details if needed (with regeneration for active protocols).
- Copy it to create modified versions.
- Delete it if no longer in use.
(See the Preparations Overview and Limitations and Constraints sections for full behavior details.)
Editing Preparations
To update a preparation:
- Go to the Preparations view.
- Tap the Edit option on the preparation you want to modify.
What You Can Edit
- Preparation name
- Peptide amounts and concentrations
- BAC water / reconstitution amount (if applicable)
- Delivery unit
Note: The container type (Vial or Pen) cannot be changed after saving. If you need a different container type, create a new preparation.
Editing a Preparation Linked to an Active Protocol
When a preparation is assigned to an active protocol, editing it affects your dosing. PepTrac handles this differently depending on what you change.
Concentration and Amount Changes
If you change the BAC water amount, peptide amounts, or delivery units, PepTrac detects that the concentration has changed and shows the Delivery Recalc screen. This screen shows:
- The preparation name and the protocol it's linked to
- The message: "Since the concentration changed, please review the updated dosages below."
- An editable Delivery Units field with the recalculated value
- An editable dosage field for each peptide, showing the recalculated amount
- If the preparation is used in multiple schedule segments: "Applies to all [N] segments using this preparation"
- The message: "Tap Confirm to make these changes to your protocol and regenerate your shots."
- Confirm and Cancel buttons
You can adjust the delivery units or individual peptide dosages before confirming. Changing one value automatically recalculates the others to keep the math consistent. On confirm, the preparation is saved, dosages are updated in your protocol, and shots are regenerated. Past shot history is preserved.
On cancel, nothing is saved — the preparation and protocol remain unchanged.
Peptide Changes (Locked)
When a preparation is linked to an active protocol, you cannot add or remove peptides. If you try, an alert appears:
- Title: "Peptides Locked"
- Message: "This preparation is in use by an active protocol '[protocol name]'. You cannot add or remove peptides. To modify peptides, use 'Save As Copy' to create a new preparation."
To change which peptides are in the blend, use Save As Copy to create a new preparation with the modified peptide list, then assign the new preparation to your protocol and remove the original.
